Perplexity

Do you know what it’s like
To fret and brood and wait
Watch the plaster peel off the wall
And the dog slowly, mournfully

Pace the cluttered hall?

To stay up trying to work out what
Your fanciful mind is mulling o'er
Waiting to get weary of the television
So you can go back to watching the rain
Through the glass door?

Not knowing what the future holds
Wanting to leap over time
You picture magic in the mind’s eye
To wipe the frown from your brow
And go to bed without wanting to.
